I'm running.

Today, I was proud to send my first campaign email and share my first campaign video. The content is reproduced here. If you'd like to receive future updates please join my list by clicking on the "get involved" tab.  Thanks for reading!

I owe everything to this city. I met my husband here, and have built a career, a home and a family on Capitol Hill. But the opportunities I've received are out of reach for too many of our neighbors. That's why I'm running to be your Ward 6 Councilmember.

I'm running because our low-income neighbors deserve access to safe, affordable housing and high-quality health care. Because seniors have a right to the peace of mind that comes with knowing they'll be able to age in place even as the cost of living continues to rise. Because every family deserves the opportunity to send their child to DC public schools knowing they'll receive a world-class education. Because parents need access to paid family leave and affordable childcare.

I'm running because everyone in our Ward deserves representation that will listen, respond, and advocate on their behalf.

Raised by my Latina mother and Jewish father, I grew up learning about the struggle and discrimination they faced in pursuit of the American Dream. Inspired by my parents, I have spent my career working to elevate the voices of those who need to be heard. I have answered phones at a domestic crisis hotline, helping survivors of sexual assault and abuse who didn't have anywhere to turn. I served in the Peace Corps, teaching literacy to children in Guyana and working on HIV/AIDS prevention. I served in the Obama administration, working to expand access to health care as a matter of right, not privilege.

DC is thriving, but too many of our neighbors are being left behind. We can do better. I'm ready to bring my record of service to the DC Council to work on behalf of all of our neighbors.

I hope you'll join me.
